How can I put my Green Egg into my stone outdoor kitchen?

We get asked all of the time about the integration of the Green Egg into an outdoor kitchen. We also get asked simply what kind of stand can I use instead of the retail stand that you can purchase with the Green Egg?

Archadeck of Charlotte has masons that custom build “nests” around the egg that serve as quite functional and beautiful. If you love outdoor cooking and living, the Green Egg has become an important addition to the space. While it was introduced as a high quality smoker of meats, fish, and vegetables, it is commonly used to grill as well!

We have a great variety of designs for outdoor kitchens in our photo gallery at https://archadeckofcharlotte.com as well as on our Pinterest page.

Designing a custom pool house or pool cabana? What should be included?

Charlotte open porch near poolAt Archadeck of Charlotte, we get called upon more frequently than ever to design and build pool houses and cabanas. With people moving their lives outdoors, the want is to have all of the conveniences closer to where they are spending their free time to entertain friends and family.

The outdoor pool business appears to be booming based on the number of requests we are getting for these structures! We begin with space planning. How many people will typically use the space? What functional purposes are we trying to solve for? Along with shade protection and weather protection, what other conveniences do you desire? Outdoor shower? Outdoor bar? An outdoor fireplace either free standing or integrated into the cabana?

These are logical starting points when beginning the design process for a pool house. Thinking about changing facilities and a restroom? All of these items require space planning and architectural thought! What type of roofing will you desire? Standing seam metal roofing? Architectural fiberglass shingles to match your home? What about flooring, a non-slip tile or some other masonry surface?

This structure can serve a dual purpose of hiding and housing your pool equipment as well. We have a beautiful photo gallery for you to gather design ideas at charlotte.archadeck.com as well as houzz.com as we feature our projects there as well!

How can you cover an outdoor kitchen? It is a question we get asked often at Archadeck of Charlotte! There are multiple ways to provide various levels of protection against sun and the elements.

The least expensive is construct a decorative pergola/ arbor that will at least provide some shade from the sun and also can be quite attractive! You could have a cabana/ gazebo designed and built that is more elaborate and depending on the architecture of your home, it can really enhance your outdoor kitchen and outdoor living space.

Another option is to construct it in a screen porch. This can be done with a vent in order to properly ventilate the room. To see great outdoor kitchen cover designs, go to www.charlotte.archadeck.com

Where should I put my grill on my patio or deck?

A common question we get at Archadeck of Charlotte is where should I place my grill on my patio or deck?

The answer we provide is based on asking a few more questions. Is this going to be simply a grill without an outdoor kitchen attached to it? How often do you grill? Is your grill aesthetically pleasing to where it should be highly visible or more subdued? What is your exterior cladding, vinyl, stucco, wood, or brick? Do you mind being out in the rain periodically?

Once these answers are provided, we can assimilate a strategy as to where to best place the grill. We always want to consider the proximity to your indoor kitchen unless you have a complete outdoor kitchen where it will not be necessary to walking back and forth throughout the process. In addition, are there level changes in your deck or patio that will make placement a different consideration? Do you have an area that will provide shelter from the rain? We usually can figure out the placement within 5 minutes. To get some great ideas, go to http://www.charlotte.archadeck.com

Are Outdoor Kitchens really practical?

Are outdoor kitchens really practical? We get asked this question at Archadeck of Charlotte nearly as much as the use of a pergola. One thing for sure, the outdoor kitchenImagehas passed the phase of being just a fad. The first outdoor kitchens we began getting demand for 6 years ago were to take a grill and create a stone box, stone counter top and some work space on it.

That evolved into adding an appliance of two such as a refrigerator or ice maker. Today? Today the outdoor kitchen has gone from a novelty, to intriguing, to a more common appearance in the backyards of Charlotte in homes ranging from $350,000 on up. With the additions of pull-out trash cans, warming drawers, Green Egg smokers, and sinks that run with hot and cold water, outdoor kitchens are not only practical, they are fabulous! Where is the best place to put an outdoor kitchen?

Consumers should take some time and think through where is the best place to locate an outdoor kitchen. The answer lies in a few factors.

Are you simply building a grill station with no other appliances? Will you have a refrigerator? Will you add a sink? Will you add a warming drawer or side burners?

If you are only going to have a grill in your outdoor kitchen, you will want it close to your back door for ease of transporting items back and forth. On the other hand, if you are going to have a refrigerator and sink, the need to go back and forth diminishes. In terms of surfaces to place them on, you can just as easily build them on your deck or patio with ease depending on how it is structured. We do recommend keeping the grill away from the house wall (particularly if there is siding). The best place to put the outdoor kitchen, take a look at the photo gallery at www.charlotte.archadeck.com
